Russell Crowe won an Oscar for his role as Maximus, a slave who rises through the gladiatorial ranks to avenge the murders of his family.

LA Confidential (RTÉ One, 12.30am)

Crowe also stars in this 1950s-set noir drama about a series of murders in LA. With Kim Basinger and Guy Pearce.

Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2017 (Channel 4, 11pm)

A repeat of the always fun quiz, in case you haven’t seen it – Richard Ayoade, Noel Fielding, David Mitchell and Katherine Ryan are among the contestants. #bfqoty
