What to watch on TV tonight: Tuesday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

Every lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

My Big Fat Gypsy Christening (TV3, 9pm)

Don’t let the title mislead you – this show covers the cycle of Traveller life from birth to death. We meet 20-year-old Helen, who is celebrating the arrival of twins. On the other side, the Ward family is preparing to bury 21-year-old Thomas, whose death is suspected to be the result of a family feud.

Dara and Ed’s Great Big Adventure (BBC2, 9pm)

In the second of tonight’s superlative-laden offerings, Dara Ó Briain and Ed Byrne navigate Costa Rica’s ‘Mountain of Death’. They conclude their epic Pan-American journey by spending 20 hours trying to cross the border into Panama. Gas craic, so.

Grey’s Anatomy (RTÉ2, 9pm)

The eleventh season of the hit medical drama chugs on, and Meredith must dodge questions from Maggie about her trip to see Derek.

Everybody’s talking about: The Vampire Diaries

Actress Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena, announced today that she’s quitting the long-running supernatural drama after the end of the new season, the show’s sixth.

In a post on Instagram, Dobrev said she wanted the fans to hear it from her:

I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. There’s more to come before we wrap this up… but until then I invite you to hop on the rollercoaster that is Elena Gilbert’s life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her.

Can TVD survive without her? We’ll have to wait and see.

  • Elementary (Sky Living, 9pm) A new episode of the American Sherlock.
  • Revenge (RTÉ2, 9.55pm) The campy drama continues.
  • The Savages (Channel 4, 1.25am) Staying up late? Check out this comedy/drama starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney.
