What to watch on TV tonight: Wednesday
DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.
Spider House (BBC Four, 9pm)
An entire programme about a house filled with spiders. AKA your nightmare. Also the nightmare of spider-hating presenter Alice Roberts, who not only has to wander around the house (and learn about the spider, courtesy of arachnologist Tim Cockerill) but also spend the night there. #spiderhouse
Second Captains Live (RTE Two, 9.30pm)
Tonight’s show will focus on the elephant-in-the-room that is homosexuality in sport, with Paul McGrath and Donal Óg Cusack joining the discussion. There’s likely to be lively debate on screen and off, but fingers crossed the Second Captains panel can offer a more nuanced discussion than some. #secondcaptains
Mercury Prize Live (More4, 9.30pm)
Broadcast from tonight’s award show in London, where FKA Twigs is favourite to win the (notoriously career-killing) Mercury prize. She’s followed in the bookies’ odds by Kate Tempest, Royal Blood and Nick Mulvey. But either way, expect some great music on show.
Everybody’s talking about: Benedict Cumberbatch’s epic BBC ad
Last night, the British broadcaster aired this pretty epic promo touting their upcoming dramas.
The ad features Benedict Cumberbatch delivering the infamous “All the world’s a stage…” monologue from As You Like It and features clips from forthcoming dramas like The Casual Vacancy, Esio Trot and Wolf Hall, as well as Sherlock, Call The Midwife, The Fall and Eastenders.
Spine-tingling stuff.
Or flick over for…
