Ireland AM was off air for two hours this morning. Here's why...

Confusion reigned.

PEOPLE TUNING IN for their regular Ireland AM fix this morning might have been a little surprised to see the gleaming face of Vernon Kay presenting Family Fortunes instead.

At around 7.40am this morning, Ireland AM froze and viewers were presented with this:

That rainbow screen got people all nostalgic

And some were getting philosophical

A source told DailyEdge.ie that it was a power failure in the studio that caused the technical problems:

Power went as Sinead Desmond was talking. They ended up cancelling a few slots, no back up generator in their new studio.

Which was confirmed by Colman Noctor on Twitter:

TV3 were forced to cancel Midday on Friday, but apparently that was due to technical failure with cameras and was unrelated to today’s power outage, according to a TV3 spokesperson speaking to DailyEdge.ie.

The screen froze this morning on presenters Aidan Cooney and Sinead Desmond

Then it was replaced by Family Fortunes until around 9.35am

Leading some to put their tongues firmly in cheek

And just as people were getting into Family Fortunes, it flipped back to Ireland AM

The drama.

Maybe we’ll never find out the answer to this great TV mystery:
