EARLIER THIS WEEK, the hugely respected rapper Kendrick Lamar released the tracklist for his new album DAMN, which featured one rather surprising addition:

Yep, that’s a U2 feature right there.
It seemed rap fans had one collective thought: U2? U2 of Get Them Off My Bloody iPhone infamy? Oh no.

The album was released this morning, and naturally, everyone rushed to evaluate XXX. And well… it’s pretty good, with Bono singing a refrain in the second half of the song.
Throughout the first half you could be forgiven for thinking “Where does Bono come into all of this? Where could he?” but then he does, and it works.
Cue surprise from Kendrick supporters across the globe, and some amount of relief from U2 fans:

Even US music magazine Spin couldn’t keep the incredulity out of their headline:
Spin Spin
Are we forgetting that U2 are banger merchants? We like to forget, but then we’re scrambling for tickets to their gig in Croke Park and sobbing along to Where The Streets Have No Name. It’s the way.
