13 important gifts Australia has given to Ireland

Happy Australia Day mates.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY everybody.

Australia Day (2) 4nitsirk 4nitsirk

Let’s take a moment to remember all the gifts Australia has given to us.

1. Fosters

OK, so Fosters isn’t exactly the nicest beer in the world. But it’s almost palatable as the students saviour of Fosters and Lime. It usually is on offer too (because they can’t get rid of it). Bargain.

2. A smug place to emigrate to

Where else would you emigrate to? Australia is vital if you want to flood Facebook with the day’s temperature while those at home sit on the freezing bus sobbing into their Barry’s.

3. Alf Stewart

AH, ALF. Stone the crows! Alf loves Ireland, and visited a little bar in Cork on his last visit.

4. Home and Away in general

Why do Irish people absolutely love an Australian soap? We’re not quite sure, we just have to live with it.

5. Bondi Rescue

This ridiculously watchable show is on 3e whenever you turn it on.

It’s the only thing that will make you feel kinda glad you’re not on a hot beach in Australia.

6.  That Land Down Under song

DO YOU COME FROM A LAND DOWN UNDER?

- you in the pub after a heap of Fosters.

7. Bondi Beach Club

RIP Bondi Beach Club. Your service to the underage drinkers of Dublin and Cork will never go unrecognised.

8. Kylie Minogue

Everyone’s dad loves Kylie Minogue, some just don’t admit it. We’re not even talking about the woman herself, mind. HER MUSIC.

9. People who can actually surf

Ah ok, kidding. They can surf in Lahinch too. So says the Denny ad.

10. Photos with a Koala for your profiler

You’d get waaaay less likes on Tinds if you didn’t have one of these babies from your three months there last summer.

11. Tim tams

While there’s a rake of snacks we’d love to steal from Australia, it’s Tim Tams that have made the biggest impact. You can find them in some of those fancy shops you get American sweets in, for a hefty price.

Can you seriously put a price on a Tim Tam and a cup of tea though? No, you can’t.

12. The Woolshed

Where else would you be going for cheap pitchers, battered bar food, and a load of angry sports fans in jerseys? Why, it’s the Woolshed.

13. And finally… ugg boots

An absolute staple of every Irish gal’s wardrobe in the noughties. They stuck with us through thick and thin, even if they were just the Penneys rip off. Thank you, Australia.
