THE ORGANISERS OF Electric Picnic have announced a slew of new acts including dance veterans Underworld and singer-songwriter M Ward.
Campaigning musician Bob Geldof has also been added to the line-up – both to take the stage with his tunes, and to address audiences at the festival’s Spoken Word area. Geldof, the father of gossip-column perennials Peaches and Pixie, is slated to perform hits from his days with the Boomtown Rats as well as material from new album How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell.
Also added to the roster are long-running indie rockers I Am Kloot and newcomers Foster The People, whose track Pumped Up Kicks has been a radio hit. A number of Irish acts have been lined up including the Rubberbandits – who recently held a Mass with festivalgoers at Oxegen – Republic of Loose, Donal Dineen and Sharon Corr.
The festival takes place at Stradbally Hall, Co Laois, from Friday September 2 to Sunday September 4 and weekend tickets are €240. The line-up also includes Arcade Fire, Pulp, the Chemical Brothers, PJ Harvey, Beirut, Interpol, Public Enemy and James Blake.
