Update: 'Wendi Deng' Twitter account revealed as fake
Updated, 2.06pm
A TWITTER ACCOUNT apparently belonging to Wendi Deng, the wife of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, has been revealed as a fake.
News International, the company that operates Murdoch’s newspapers in the UK and Ireland, confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the account was not genuine.
Earlier, we cited a Guardian report that News Corporation, the parent company of News International, had confirmed the account was real.
The person posing as Deng sent out her first tweets on New Year’s Day, and used the opportunity to send Murdoch festive greetings (see below). She also said she was “showing” her husband that Twitter was a “great way 2 communicate with people”.
The account was then used among other things to flirt with comedian Ricky Gervais…
…correct the spelling of Wendi’s name…
…tell her ‘husband’ to cool his heels…
…reject the opportunity for a head-to-head with comedian Jonnie Marbles, who attacked Murdoch with a pie in the House of Commons…
…and ‘reveal’ a few more domestic details about the Murdoch household:
