USAIN BOLT IS fresh from bowing out of athletics with a bronze medal in London, but it looks like he has a new sporting cause on the horizon:
Supporting Carlow in GAA.
This week, his Irish physio Anthony ‘Star’ Geoghegan was working with him at the World Championships when he pulled out an old Carlow jersey and got the man himself to pose for a photo with it
Up the Scallion Eaters!
Star works from his cutting edge Realta Clinic in Carlow with many top international athletes – including Tori Bowie, Blanka Vlasic and LaShawn Merritt – as well as top GAA stars too.
He’s been brought out to big events that Bolt is running in, including at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
And his trusty Carlow jersey got a serious run out this week – look at it on 100m champ Tori Bowie
Here’s Star himself with Usain ahead of the 100m at the World Championships last week
Geoghegan’s daughter Tania tells DailyEdge.ie that the Carlow jersey’s appearance is appropriate given her dad’s love for his county:
He’s a proud sporting man, and a big Carlow GAA supporter. I think given how well they did this summer, he wanted to proudly show off the jersey.
When athletes come over to Carlow, he brings them to GAA and likes to give back to the county.
And it was backed up with these inspirational words on their Twitter account today:
“Putting Carlow on the map with one of the greatest athletes of all time Usain Bolt. Carlow rising”
No argument there.
And if they can sign Usain up to join the forward line, next year’s Championship would be even more interesting.
Well played Star.
