THE GREAT BRITISH Bake Off returned last night and though there were 11 other bakers to meet, the one that captured hearts was 66-year-old former headteacher, Val.
While she came all too close to being booted off thanks to two dodgy bakes, her quirks and a good turn in the Showstopper challenge made her number one in viewers’ eyes.

She dropped all her pretty flower cake decorations on the floor, shrugged, and used them anyway.
