VIDEO: Nellie the elephant makes a run for it in Cork
AN ELEPHANT ESCAPED from a local circus in Cork yesterday. The incident was captured on video as the elephant tried to make his escape from a nearby car park.
The circus, which is taking place in Blackpool, is situated just a few minutes away from where the elephant was filmed.
The video shows the keeper trying his best to control and calm the animal with pedestrians looking on bemused at the unfolding scene.
A second circus employee then arrives to assist the keeper in capturing the elephant.
The two men eventually get the elephant out of the car park. The runaway was eventually stopped at traffic lights and escorted back to the circus.
Gardai were called to the scene by a passing motorist. Speaking to TheJournal.ie, a spokesperson said that an incident took place at approximately 4.50pm. The spokesperson stated that there are allegations that some damage may have been done to a vehicle but that there were no injuries. Gardai said they would be investigating the matter and viewing CCTV footage of the incident.
According to YouTube, this footage was captured by Paul Dunbar from a nearby office block.
