VIDEO: Who knew Ireland had waves like this?
GOOD NEWS FOR Irish surfers: some of our very own Irish waves have been nominated for the Biggest Wave of the Year award at the Billabong XXL Wave Awards.
Two giant waves at Mullaghmore Head in Sligo are nominated alongside waves from Portugal, Spain and Australia.
Irish surfer Ollie O’Flaherty caught one of the huge waves in Co Sligo last month, while Andrew Cotton is also in line to win the $15,000 (€11,478) prize.
Ireland is clearly a fan of the big waves as this YouTube clip is currently trending in Ireland with over 13,624 views.
There has been some pretty changeable weather as of late, so who knows what is in store for this weekend. Sligo is fast becoming the Hawaii of Western Europe so if you are out for a stroll along the beach maybe you’ll spot one of these gigantic waves?
