IT’S HARD TO say what exactly is so great about Vine.
The video-sharing app creates six-seconds of looped joy, but Twitter has announced it’s killing the app in the coming months.
Since it was created in 2013, Vine has been a central platform for some of the internet’s biggest memes and funniest viral clips.
Some of them were just brilliant, curious moments
While others were the work of six-second filmmakers
One of these creators is Senan Byrne, who holds the title of Ireland’s most popular Viner.
He creates short clips on the app that are often hilarious, and sometimes baffling
He told DailyEdge.ie this evening that he’s “beyond upset” at the news, and it feels like a part of him is soon going to “vanish forever”.
To me, Vine isn’t a simple app or social network. It is a community of talented and creative individuals. It’s an app filled with love and passion, and something for the past two years I gave my all to.
Senan is a nurse by trade, but when he’s not on the wards he’s crafting his Vines, delivering original clips to almost 300,000 followers. His work has a combined quarter of a billion views, and he was the first European Vine creator to feature in the ‘Spotlight’ section of the site.
I’m hugely proud of that. I became Ireland’s biggest Viner.
Understandably, he’s saddened at the news that it’s to close
I had some amazing moments and opportunities through Vine for which I am eternally grateful.
It took me on adventures abroad, I made friends with people at the other side of the world and I even let the world know I got engaged to my beautiful fiancé through Vine.
And he did it in the sweetest of ways
Despite such a small Irish community, Senan produced genuinely funny, original, clips which we’re promised will still be available to stream even when the app closes.
In that case, enjoy some of his biggest hits
