NASA HAS CAPTURED dramatic images of activity on the surface of the sun after a new active region on our nearest star came into view.
The space agency’s Solar Dynamics Observatory says that it recorded three separate solar flares on 2 and 4 March.
One of the two flares recorded yesterday sent out a ‘Type IV radio burst’ for around three-quarters of an hour.

These kinds of outbursts can interfere with radio communications on Earth, although the the Earth’s upper atmosphere protects us from the solar radiation emitted by the solar activity.
The SDO uses extreme UV light to record images and footage from the sun.

The space agency’s Solar Dynamics Observatory says that it recorded three separate solar flares on 2 and 4 March.
