Watch it: Friday at the movies
EVERY FRIDAY AFTERNOON, TheJournal.ie presents an award-winning short film for you to enjoy as you ease into the weekend.
This week: New Boy.
The Oscar-nominated New Boy is a wonderful, layered film that tells the story of a nine year-old boy’s first day in an Irish school, using flashbacks to hint at his previous life in Africa. Originally a short story by Roddy Doyle, it was adapted for the screen by Steph Green who also directed the film. A deceptively simply-made film that touches on complex human emotions, New Boy has deservedly won over 20 international awards.
