WATCH: "Our work is our legacy": one of David Kelly's last film roles
ASIDE FROM HIS marvellous breadth of talent, one of the most celebrated characteristics of the late David Kelly was the way he seemed equally at home on stage and screen.
The 82-year-old Dubliner, who passed away yesterday, was celebrated for a major catalogue that spanned the smallest plays to roles in big Hollywood hits.
This morning we’d like to share with you David Kelly’s final role on the silver screen: a part in an Irish short film, ‘The Good Doctor’, produced in 2009 by independent Irish company i-Wire films.
In it, Kelly stars alongside Mark Huberman (brother of Amy) as an ex-Nazi doctor recounting his past role working in Auschwitz.
“Our work is our legacy in this life,” he says in one of his opening lines.
i-Wire’s Rick Larkin said Kelly had been “a truly great man”, and would keep in touch with filmmakers long after he had finished work to see how they were getting on.
“I’ve never met anyone like him in the film industry before or since. He will be missed terribly.”
And so say all of us.
