Watch: The Russian grannies that will sing at the Eurovision song contest
A RUSSIAN GROUP who are known as the ‘Buranovo Grannies’ are to represent their country in this year’s Eurovision song contest in May.
The six women, known also as the ‘singing babushkas’, are from a village in Russia’s Udmurtia Republic and blend their traditional language and choral singing style with modern pop sounds and flashing lights.
Party for Everybody, is in English, but the rest is in Udmurt, a distant relation of Finnish spoken by some 325,000 people, according to AP.
It reports that one of the grannies, Olya, wants to perform and raise enough money to build a church in their home village of Buranovo.
The group will compete at the 57th annual Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in May of this year in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
