Wedding dress report sees the new Queen in McQueen

Late designer’s fashion house tipped to be working on dress design with Kate Middleton – even as it issues denial.

KATE MIDDLETON IS rumoured to be wearing a wedding dress designed by the British fashion house Alexander McQueen, according to this report in the Telegraph.

Sarah Burton, who took over as creative director following McQueen’s suicide last year, has been tipped to land what is considered one of the most coveted jobs in the fashion industry.

Burton is said to have caught Middleton’s attention when she designed the wedding dress for Sarah Buys, a fashion journalist married to the son of Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005.

But the future Queen wants the identity of the royal wedding dress designer to remain a secret until the big day, and Burton’s involvement is being denied by spokespeople for the palace and for Alexander McQueen, reports CNN.

McQueen CEO Jonathan Akeroyd, who the Telegraph says may have been responsible for the initial leak, dismissed claims that the fashion house had any involvement in the wedding.

Not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it.

Meanwhile, a Clarence House spokesman refused to be drawn on the rumours.

We always knew that there would be a lot of speculation about the appointment of the designer. Because Catherine Middleton is keen to keep this private, we are not responding to this in any way at all. This is about the 10th one we’ve been asked about in the last three months and it’s getting a bit ridiculous.

Middleton is set to marry Prince William at Westminster Abbey on April 29.
