A bike company has apologised for this tweet about getting the 'weekend ride'

“Ready for the weekend ride?”

FAMOUS ITALIAN BICYCLE brand Colgano has been at the centre of a fairly major social media controversy over the last couple of days.

Over the weekend, they tweeted this out to their 15,000 followers:

weekendride Colnago / CyclingWeekly Colnago / CyclingWeekly / CyclingWeekly

The tweet was immediately picked up on by people who labelled it sexist

And pointed out that Colnago sponsor women’s cycling – so the tone of the ad was even worse given the context

It just didn’t go down well at all

And spawned a few jokes about the debacle as the controversy exploded

Though the tweet had been deleted, Colnago released a statement on its Facebook page apologising for the whole incident:

Colnago deeply regrets the recent posting of an image and accompanying social media post that is offensive to women, and not at all appropriate. Colnago has long-supported women’s cycling and continues to provide such support, we do not condone sexism, on or off the bike, and sincerly apologize for posting the image.

So now.

The apology is in, but it hasn’t stopped people talking about it at all.
