Welly sales are up 99 per cent... so here's a mudbath gallery to celebrate

Festival season and the plentiful rainfall this summer means that at least one store has seen wellingtons flying off the shelves. Take a look at the humble boot in action…

DEPARTMENT STORE DEBENHAMS has proclaimed that sales of wellies are up an astonishing 99 per cent in the past month… well, maybe it’s not that astonishing considering it’s festival season.

If you were one of the revellers at the Castlepalooza or Indiependence festivals this bank holiday weekend you might have considered buying some shares in a welly company, and with Electric Picnic coming up in a few weeks, there’s no doubt that rubber boots will be the footwear of choice that weekend too.

Debenhams have said today that the “record breaking torrential rain” that we’ve been gifted with this summer has meant their welly sales have doubled in the past three months, while sales of umbrellas and rain coats are up 30 per cent on the same period last year.
