PUB CHAIN JD Wetherspoon’s looks set to be expanding its empire in Ireland, having received conditional approval to open a premises in Waterford City.
The pub chain submitted a planning application to Waterford City and County Council to develop a premises at two adjoining buildings situated on 17-18 Broad Street and 7-9 Arundel Square, Waterford, and received conditional approval to follow through with the development.
The application mentions plans of amalgamating the buildings and building a swanky new “customer garden area” on the first floor.
In a statement to DailyEdge.ie, Wetherspoon’s confirmed their intentions to open a pub in Waterford City, but noted that “the site still needs a licence”.
Likewise, they could not confirm when we can expect the pub to be open.
JD Wetherspoon’s, which is renowned for its cheap and cheerful pints, currently operates five branches in the Republic of Ireland — four in Dublin and one in Cork.
In addition to the proposed pub in Waterford City, there are currently plans afoot to open a branch on Dublin’s Camden Street.
