Laura Whitmore thinks her Who Do You Think You Are episode will be a tad Angela's Ashes

‘I don’t come from a lot.’

LAURA WHITMORE IS the latest high-profile personality to trace her familial roots with the help of the ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ team, and according to the television presenter, she’s as Irish as they come.

The Bray-native spoke to RTÉ Entertainment about her experience working alongside the documentary’s genealogists, and stressed how meaningful the project was to her.

But if you’re under any assumption about Laura’s lineage, the former MTV presenter drew a pretty clear picture of her heritage by comparing it to Frank McCourt’s memoir Angela’s Ashes.

It may be a little bit like an episode of Angela’s Ashes. I don’t come from royalty and I don’t come from a lot.

Laura, who currently lives in Camden in London, says she was eager to learn more about her female ancestors and the roles they played in their respective families.

For me it was very important to learn about the women in my family and how hard they had to work to provide for their family.

“I learned a lot about where I come from which I think is really important for everyone,” Laura added.

Of the RTÉ series which will hit our screens in September, Laura has nothing but praise for the programme, and the opportunities it offers its participants.

It was really wonderful to do. I came back home for about ten days at the beginning of the year. I found out that I am 100% Irish as far as you could go back. It was lovely and very sobering.

Laura’s series will also feature Damien Dempsey and Adrian Dunbar.
