WILIAM SHATNER SAYS he loved Leonard Nimoy, who died last week, “like a brother”.
So he’s taken criticism over missing the Star Trek’s actor’s funeral to heart. Shatner explained over the weekend that he would be missing the service as he had decided to honour a commitment to a Red Cross charity event instead.
While some fans supported Shatner’s decision, and his representation at the funeral by his two daughters, others criticised his absence.
And the eighty-three-year-old hasn’t taken it lying down.
This headline published by the New York Daily News did not go unnoticed:
Shatner explained that there simply wasn’t a flight available to return him to LA in time for the 9am service yesterday morning.
He tackled this radio host for suggesting he take a private jet to get to the service on time.
Schnitt offered to make a donation to the Red Cross if Shatner appeared on his radio show, and the whole situation turned a little nasty, with Shatner’s fans piling on in support.
Shatner, who played Captain Kirk alongside Nimoy’s Spock took to Twitter again yesterday to invite fans to share their questions and memories about his late friend, in a session he called “healing”.
