Woman celebrates marriage to... herself
A WOMAN IN the US has married herself in a commitment ceremony to honour the progress she has made in her life.
Instead of promising to love, honour and obey, Nadine Schweigert, made a commitment to herself to change her life.
9 News reports that the 36-year-old stood at the alter by herself in front of 40 of her friends.
While her wedding may not have been the usual, she followed the wedding traditions and took herself on honeymoon to New Orleans.
Schweigert, a yoga teacher, spoke to US TV host Anderson Cooper, saying that she was no longer going to rely on others to make her happy like she did in the past and she was no longer waiting for “someone to complete her”.
She added “the love I need is here, ” putting her hand to her heart.
“I feel very empowered, very happy, very joyous… it’s a form of accountability,” she said. She said having the wedding ceremony was in no way attention-seeking.
