The story of a Drogheda woman who married the 'ghost of a 300-year-old pirate' is going global

Finally, some happy news.

IRELAND MADE INTERNATIONAL headlines today, but… not for the reasons you might expect.

Drogheda native and mother of five Amanda Teague is going global for marrying her ‘soulmate’, Jack, who just so happens to be the ghost of a 300-year-old pirate.

Teague says she met Jack in 2014 when he appeared beside her in bed – and after two years of courtship, things got properly serious between them. She told The Irish Sun:

I told him I wasn’t really cool with having casual sex with a spirit, and I wanted us to make a proper commitment to each other. If I am going to be in a long-term relationship with somebody I have the right to be married.

The ceremony took place in a boat off the Irish coast, in international waters, where the marriage would be legal.

A medium was sought out so Jack could give his verbal consent, and his ring was fitted on a candle in place of his hand. The couple has since bought a home together, and Teague says they have sex and go on dates:

You can feel the weight of the spirit, their touch, the pressure. You can literally feel the physical act of what the spirit is doing to you, and the spirit can feel it too.
…He can’t eat or drink, but he can sense it through me, it is called ‘embodiment’. I can order Jack a drink and allow him to feel it through me, or he can taste my food.

Teague cosplays as Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean films and says her husband looks very similar to the character, played by Johnny Depp.

They are co-writing a book about their relationship, which will contain advice for others looking to find a ghostly soulmate.

The romance of Amanda and Jack is currently going viral around the world after being featured on the Daily Mail, and has been translated into all sorts of languages.

The reaction to the story has been a resounding ‘same’:
