Yep – Josephine McAllister of Albuquerque, New Mexico reportedly smuggled a gun into prison in a very good hiding place.
Such a good hiding place, in fact, that prison officers didn’t discover it until another inmate found the weapon in a bin.
McAllister told officers that the gun had been hidden in her waistband when she was arrested for possession of stolen credit cards back in December – she didn’t tell police about it for fear of bringing more charges on herself. So far, so logical.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that she somehow kept the gun on her the entire time she was being processed by the police, and officers only became aware of the weapon after she attempted to discard it.
Officer Simon Drobik said there was no way they would have missed the gun if it was still in her waistband, leading them to believe it was stored in her genitals.
We can only be so thorough, and that area is out of the question. We cannot search a bodily cavity.
McAllister herself says she was high on heroin at the time of her arrest, and did not actually mean to smuggle in the gun.
Let’s hope the safety was on.
