SURE, THERE’S NOTHING better than a perfect golden chip from any chipper, anywhere – but we’re soon to find out who makes the best chips in the world.
On Saturday 31 May, Limerick City is hosting a grand competition to find the best tasting chip on the planet – the World Chip Championships.
In an open contest for professional cooks, judges including Masterchef’s Nick Munier and Dan Mullane of Limerick restaurant The Mustard Seed will select the first ever World Chip Champion.
They’re not just looking for normal old potato chips either.
Organisers want to see some creativity, so we’re talking poutine, kale chips, baked mozzarella sticks, even pulled pork fries (which sound right up our alley).

The event is part of the larger Culture and Chips festival in the city, a self-described “quirky food carnival” taking place over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
If you think you can cut the mustard (ahem) there are application forms available on the Culture and Chips website.
