The dramatic 'World Cup of Christmas Films' is dividing everyone on Twitter
Vanityfair Vanityfair
YOU MIGHT REMEMBER earlier this year, when comedian and presenter of Pointless on the BBC Richard Osman held the World Cup of Crisps on Twitter.
Now he’s back… with something even more controversial.
For the last 48 hours, he’s been hosting the World Cup of Christmas Films – with Twitter polls deciding which movies make it through
Twitter Twitter
Starting off with eight groups of four films – just like the soccer World Cup of course – the Christmas classics have been whittled down by popular vote.
This evening, the semi-finals are taking place – and things are TENSE
Twitter Twitter
Neck and neck with only an hour or so to go.
In the other semi – things are equally as tight
Twitter Twitter
Upwards of 100,000 votes are being cast on each poll – so it’s safe to say people are taking this very seriously
Twitter Twitter
And beyond the good-natured arguments – there’s a lovely back story to the polls.
Osman has nominated a children’s charity to benefit from all the attention
And betting company Betfair have opened a book on who will win – with all losing stakes going to the cause
Twitter Twitter
Brilliant.
The Muppets Christmas Carol is currently losing its semi-final, so there has been a huge push from its fans – given there is only an hour left
People *really* care about Christmas movies – and he’s chosen the right time of year to put this to a vote
The final is tonight, by the looks of things, and it’s set to be a humdinger.
