LAST WEEKEND, THE World Yo-Yo Contest took place in Prague. The three-day event describes itself as “the largest gathering of competition yo-yo players and fans in the world”. (Yes, they’re called yo-yo players and yo-yoers.)
After three days of intense competition, 18-year-old Gentry Stein was named the world yo-yo champion.
The video below captures Stein entertaining the crowd while doing several insanely intricate yo-yo tricks and throwing in slick dance moves as some bombastic music plays in the background.
As you can see, he’s basically the Justin Timberlake of the yo-yo world.
Speaking to MTV, Stein said he wants to change the perception of yo-yoing and make it as cool as skateboarding.
People think skateboarding is super cool. All it is is a board with wheels. All yo-yoing is is a wheel with a piece of string, but there’s no reason skateboarding should be seen as cooler in my opinion.
Yo-yoing: cooler than you thought.
