THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT really lovely farmers with accents we can’t understand that just says ‘real Ireland’.
RTE news reporter Seán Mac An tSíthigh seems to be able to find the best of them. Remember this lad from last year?
The correspondent’s latest dispatch from South Kerry is just so wonderful on so many levels. As a result, social media has completely fallen in love with its protagonist, and its wholesome tackling of the issues of rural isolation and mental health.

Meet farmer Mike O’Shea
He’s a farmer, and more recently, a lover of yoga.
He goes to a class on Wednesday nights, and explains that after a hard day on the farm, ‘you’d be a new man coming back from the yoga’.
The yoga instructor in the clip explains that most of the farmers have built a pretty sturdy back, but yoga means they can further increase their flexibility and comfort with the swift movements.
As for Mike, there’s also the added bonus of a social occasion.
I live on my own, the main reason is that I can get out of the house. I’m not a man for the bar. Rural isolation is a real problem. If you don’t get out you’ll be left behind.
Then there are the obvious physical benefits too
He really seemed like he loved it.
Yoga is great for the mind, it gets the stress out too.
The mental health benefits can be carried into the farm
Wonderful.
