Here's absolutely everything we know so far about The Young Offenders Christmas Special

Robert Sheehan has a role.

THE YOUNG OFFENDERS was possibly the best RTE comedy series that graced our screens this year.

Based on the 2016 movie, The Young Offenders follows best mates Jock and Conor as they get up to mischief in their hometown in Cork.

While we’re still waiting on the second series, news recently broke that we’d be treated to a Christmas special.

A first look shows Jock brandishing a bedpan, as Mairead looks a bit worse for wear and Conor seems anxious.

So, what’s it all about?

The plotlines we’ve got so far are vague enough.

According to a synopsis, we visit the lads in Christmas week, and a lot of the story involves them joining the residents of their estate to fight off plans to move everyone so renovations can take place.

There’s also another plot involving Mairead, who has been sick for weeks with an illness that turns out to be more serious than initially thought. The boys ask her if she needs anything, which results in them going on a “chaotic adventure” to try make her wish come true.

What else do we know about it?

It was filmed last month in Cork, and Robert Sheehan of Love/Hate fame is guest starring.

Writer and director is Peter Foott of the original movie, so we’re in safe hands as he’s written the screenplay once again.

Any wild guesses as to what’s going to happen?

Glad you asked.

I think it’s going to be sad, really really sad. Or at least very touching. Come on, be OK Mairead!

Great, so when is it airing?

There’s no date announced yet, but we’ll keep you updated. It’ll be airing on both RTE and the BBC.
