This YouTuber's book is the biggest-selling debut ever, but who is she?

Meet Zoella.

A NOVEL BY a British YouTube personality named Zoella has just become the biggest-selling debut since records ever and the fastest-selling book of 2014, having shifted an impressive 78,000 copies.

To put that in perspective, it’s reportedly five times more than what Fifty Shades of Grey sold in its first week, and has outsold the debut offerings of JK Rowling and Dan Brown.

But just who exactly is this Zoella?

Zoella, otherwise known as Zoe Suggs, is an inordinately popular beauty and fashion ‘vlogger’. She started sharing video blogs in 2009 and her channel has since amassed over 300 million views and over 6 million subscribers.

Some of her most popular videos include How To: My Quick and Easy Hairstyles (7.8 million views) and Draw My Life (5.8 million views).

She has over 2.5 million followers on Twitter and teens love her.

She was even featured on the recent Band Aid 30 single.

TL;DR: she’s an incredibly big deal.

Back in June, she signed a book deal with Penguin to write two novels. The first, Girl Online, was published last week.

It is described as a “a modern-day Notting Hill for teens” and tells the story of a teenager whose courtship with an American pop star goes viral after her anonymous blog is exposed.

Rights to the book have been sold in 25 languages and a follow-up will be published next summer.

The unprecedented success of the book has caught many by surprise. Even Zoella herself seems shocked by it.

The more you know, eh?
